Student to Staff Ratios

Older Twos: One teacher per 5 children.

Three-year-olds: One teacher per 6 children.

Four-year-olds: One teacher per 8 children.

Our Goal

Our Goal is to foster social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. We accomplish this with a program that develops preschool childrens delight in nature, music, art, literature, science, computers and culture.

What Makes Our Program Special

A director with more than 20 years in early childhood education, and a staff of experienced teachers providing families and young children with the continuity they need.

More than 40 years of experience educating two generations of local children in a central, convenient South Salem setting.

Excellent communication with families including holiday celebrations, open houses, curriculum nights, a regular newsletter, parent coffees, observation opportunities and one-on-one conferences with the director.

The flexibility of morning or afternoon sessions with optional enrichment sessions.

Eligibility & Registration

Children must be an older 2 for the 2's program. Child must be 3 by December 1 for three-year-old class. Child must be 4 by December 1 for four-year-old class. Registration begins for all classes October 1 of prior school year. New York State requires that a current medical report for each child be on file at the school prior to the first day of school. Special discounts apply for families with more than once child enrolled and church members.

An Exceptional Staff

Teachers are hand-picked for their love of children, and work as a team to provide multiple role models and maximize faculty-student interaction. All have many years of experience in the program and all are parents.

Staff members continue their own professional development at seminars in early childhood education and are supervised by an experienced full-time school director working beside them in the classroom.

Facilities

The School is located on an historic site in South Salem in a beautiful natural setting.

Children can enjoy the changing seasonal colors and nature exploration on almost 4 acres of quiet country property.

Facilities include large, open, sun-filled classrooms with separate art areas, and a developmentally appropriate fenced play-ground for active recreation and creative outdoor play.

The South Salem Nursery School is an outreach of the South Salem Presbyterian Church. The School is located within the Church facility in the heart of the hamlet, with ample parking. It is non-sectarian and open to all.
