Memorial Day Fair

Annual Memorial Day Fair

This is an opportunity to step back in time and experience a slice of pure Americana. To savor the simple charm of a small town parade—the gleaming fire trucks, beaming Brownies and cub scouts (always one with his shirt tails hanging out) marching proudly down Main Street waving flags. Races, a pet show, and enough hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream to feed the entire town complete the picture. For the 32nd year, the South Salem Presbyterian Church is sponsoring The Memorial Day Fair on May 26th from 9:00 until 3:00.

The fair opens with a series of races, all starting at the South Salem Library on Main Street with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. The 5K starts at 9:00 a.m., a 10K at 9:30. For those wanting a more moderate workout, there will be a 4.3-mile walk beginning at 9:45. Peewee races will begin after the others finish. For spectators, coffee and donuts will be available at the Church all morning.

The parade assembles on the south end of Truesdale Lake and starts up Main Street toward the Town House at noon. Be prompt; the procession is short but sweet. Memorial Day services will follow at the Town House.

There will be craft booths and baked goods for sale. Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink along with opportunities to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

CHILDREN'S PET SHOW

On church grounds there are activities for the entire family—Fido included. The Children’s Pet Show welcomes dogs, cats, rabbits, small rodents, water pets (including insects) and there is a miscellaneous category so not to leave anyone (or thing) out. The “best” pet in town will be recognized as grand champ. There will also be a reserve champ named and place ribbons will be awarded in each category. Pet Show registration form
