Memorial Day Fair

Annual Memorial Day Fair

This is an opportunity to step back in time and experience a slice of pure Americana. To savor the simple charm of a small town parade—the gleaming fire trucks, beaming Brownies and cub scouts (always one with his shirt tails hanging out) marching proudly down Main Street waving flags. Races, a pet show, and enough hamburgers, hot dogs and ice cream to feed the entire town complete the picture. For the 33rd year, the South Salem Presbyterian Church is sponsoring The Memorial Day Fair on May 25th from 9:00 until 3:00.

The fair opens with a series of races, all starting at the South Salem Library on Main Street with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. The 5K starts at 9:00 a.m., a 10K at 9:30. For those wanting a more moderate workout, there will be a 4.3-mile walk beginning at 9:45. Peewee races will begin after the others finish. For spectators, coffee and donuts will be available at the Church all morning.

The parade assembles on the south end of Truesdale Lake and starts up Main Street toward the Town House at noon. Be prompt; the procession is short but sweet. Memorial Day services will follow at the Town House.

There will be craft booths and baked goods for sale. Of course, there will be plenty of food and drink along with opportunities to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.

GAMES AND ACTIVITIES

Games and activities for children include a 25-foot inflatable slide, a moon bounce and a new inflatable obstacle course. There will also be an emphasis on providing more games for older children to complement the perennial favorites of the younger set.

Join our Race Sponsors!

Over 600 racers and their families come to South Salem on Memorial Day! The South Salem Memorial Day races could not happen without help from local sponsors. The sponsorship helps provide all the racers with a t-shirt, bottle of water and a ribbon for their effort. In return the sponsors are listed on the back of the t-shirt, in all registration materials and newspapers. The sponsorship fee for the Adult/Youth events is $225 and $125 for the Pee Wee Races. We are offering sponsors the opportunity to join in the fun and help hand out the trophies for the adult races and ribbons for the Pee Wee and Mile Fun Run races. Along with the extra publicity, sponsors can witness first hand the many smiles on both children and adults they help to make happen on this day.

Family sponsorships are also welcome. Children love to see their family name on the back of the race shirt and it is a wonderful way to show support for this annual community event. If you are interested in joining our sponsors please contact the Church office at 914-763-9282.
