After being elected in January your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) has been very busy meeting almost every week working through the process of finding our new pastor.
In the Presbyterian Church the Pastor Nominating Process is done in three phases; each of which has four steps. After being elected we met with our representatives from the Hudson Presbytery to understand this process and get started on the first phase – referred to as the “Preparation Phase.” At our first formal meeting we selected officers as follows:
Co-Moderators – Jeanne Allen and Linda Calvert
Treasurer – George Van Marter
Corresponding Secretary – Steve Thatcher
Recording Secretary – Lisa Smith
Computer Interface – Marilyn Scribner
Hosting Visiting Clergy – Linda Calvert and Jeanne Allen
The Preparation Phase is clearly the most time consuming of the three phases. All of you who participated in our vision statement process last year took part in the first step of the Preparation Phase. The second step was the election of the PNC. For the past three months the PNC has been working on the third step – drafting the Church Information Form (CIF). Much of our input comes from what the congregation contributed during last year’s vision statement efforts.
One reason the CIF takes so much time is that it is in a format dictated by the Presbyterian Church. It is entered into their computer system and the information needs to be in their format in order to facilitate the pastor matching process. Another reason for the time is that your PNC has been diligent in making sure that it reflects SSPC’s CIF.
